Job Satisfaction

You’ve probably seen several of your friends or colleagues change jobs.  Maybe you’ve done it yourself.  This isn’t what you looked forward to when you were little.  You had it set in your head that you were supposed to grow up, go to school, and then land your dream job.  Maybe after that, get married, have 2.5 kids, a dog, and a picket fence, right?

Well, an unfortunate reality that people are faced with every day is job satisfaction versus job success.  People change their jobs for one of two reasons: they are either dissatisfied with what they are doing, or are not making enough money to live the way they want to.  Often times, the two are correlated.  Maybe being on the “clean-up crew” at a circus would be worth it if it paid millions and came with stock options.  Or maybe working 70 hours per week at a major law firm would be more worth it if it could also afford you time to watch your son’s Wednesday night soccer games.  Unfortunately, it’s either one or the other most of the time.

I know a person that went through all the trouble of law school, only to get out, practice for a few years, and decide that she hated it.  She then decided to become a doctor.  Attended Cornell, did residency at Harvard.  She probably is now working on the cure for AIDS or saving lives every day.  Not everyone has the time or money to just pick up and pursue another career path with the wave of a magic wand.  And not everyone has the skill-set under their belt to just apply and get the next job on their list of careers to obtain.  That is why online schooling is so key.  It allows you to learn whatever new expertise you desire at the pace and time that is most convenient to you.  Once finished with your new degree, you can go on to new and more satisfying endeavors.
