The celebrities you read about nowadays are usually gallivanting around Hollywood, charging tens of thousands of dollars for party appearances and creating drama on reality television shows. Or crashing into trees, but that’s neither here nor there, right? However, there are a few out there that passed through the school system like the rest of us.
Natalie Portman was once quoted to say, “I’d rather be smart than be a movie star.” Lucky for us, this Harvard graduate is both. She graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and then pursued graduate studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2004.
Other Ivy League starlets include:
Julia Stiles. She attended Columbia University and majored in English.
Amanda Peet. Also studied at Columbia. Majored in History.
Claire Danes. She studied psychology at Yale, but left after two years to concentrate on her acting career.
She can make a sugar cookie prettier and better than anyone in the free-world, but did you know that Martha Stewart went to school to learn about ancient African artifacts? Stewart has a bachelor’s degree in history and architectural history from Barnard College. That sort of background usually doesn’t promise the holder to be the CEO of a multi-million dollar enterprise or a television show (or… I guess… jail time), but she did it anyway!
Another famous Stewart that has a college degree from an accredited school is Jon. He holds a degree in psychology from William and Mary. Sure, he sits in a chair and talks to people now, but instead – it’s on the television, in front of millions of viewers.
Speaking of millions of viewers, how about The Simpson’s creator Matt Groening? He studied philosophy at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. Apparently, he traded in Hegel for Homer, which is fine by me and around 10 million other people, weekly.
As for those gallivanting harlot starlets like Paris Hilton? Well, she has her GED. Which is “good enough.” She is worth over $30 million, but I wouldn’t follow in her foot-steps. That may be hard, anyway. She wears a size 11 shoe.
